The Clockwork Automaton

A puzzle game to play with ChatGPT voice

Most things you do with ChatGPT voice are questions and answers. The Clockwork Automaton gives you something to do together: you can see a brass automaton whose spring is running down, ChatGPT holds the maker's notebook, and you only get through it by talking.

ChatGPT cannot see the puzzles and you cannot see the rules. It has to ask good questions; you have to describe what you see precisely. A raised inner brow and a raised outer brow lead to different keys.

The full game: the automaton's face, gears, masks, bells and hallmark tiles under a serial plate, three lamps and a spring dial

How to set it up

  1. Open a new chat in ChatGPT. On the game's start screen press Copy the notebook for your AI and paste it in, or send it the link to the notebook page. Ask it to confirm it has the notebook.
  2. Start voice mode from that same chat, so it keeps the notebook in view.
  3. Wind the spring. Read out the serial plate, the three lamps and the faults, then pick a module and describe it.

Keep the camera off

ChatGPT voice can look through your camera or at your screen. If you let it, it can play alone, and the fun is gone. The notebook asks it not to, but the choice is yours.
