Blender add-on

UV layouts that know how your mesh moves.

StrainUV compares a mesh's rest shape to its posed or shape-keyed shape, measures exactly where it stretches, then places seams and resizes UV islands so the parts that flex the most get more texture resolution. Three clicks, no external dependencies.

How it works

Before / after

Same seam count, same mesh. A plain angle-based unwrap (left) gives every island roughly equal space. StrainUV's strain-weighted pack (right) gives the high-strain band measurably more room, because that's where the texture actually needs the resolution.

UV layout from a plain angle-based unwrap: three islands of similar size
UV layout from StrainUV: the high-strain island is packed noticeably larger than the other two

Who it's for

Character artists and riggers in Blender prepping meshes for texture painting — anyone who currently poses a character to an extreme and eyeballs where to add seams and extra texel density by hand.
